English Teaching Assistant Program for Canadians
Teaching English in France is a unique opportunity for young Canadians to live abroad, gain international experience, and immerse themselves in French culture while working in public schools across the country.
Through the English Teaching Assistant Program in France, Canadians can work as language assistants for seven months, supporting French students while earning a monthly stipend to cover living expenses. This program is ideal for those with strong French skills, an interest in education or cultural exchange, and a desire to experience daily life in France.
Languages Canada supports Canadian participants throughout the application process and helps them prepare for a successful experience abroad.

- Monthly Stipend: Approx. €1,300 gross (≈ €820 net)
- Housing: Not provided (participants secure their own housing)
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Teaching Assistant Program in France, applicants must:
- Be a Canadian citizen aged 20–35
- Have completed at least two years of university studies at the time of application (any field)
- Demonstrate good knowledge of French (minimum B1) based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
- Have been mostly educated in Canada (up to high school)
- Have English as a first language
- Provide proof of motivation and French proficiency from a current or former university professor
Employment Terms
- Application period: Late October to late February; you are welcome to apply today through the form below, to be notified when the application process begins
- Contract duration: 7 months
- Program dates: October 1 to April 30
- Hours: 12 hours per week
- Contract type: Fixed-term work contract
- Monthly stipend: Approx. €820 net (≈ €1,300 gross)
- Important: Program dates and duration are fixed and non-negotiable
Housing is not provided, and participants are responsible for securing accommodation independently.
